Dear (insert name of Principal)

Association of Colleges pay deals

We are writing to you as representatives of the local recognised unions (insert name of unions recognised locally) to call for immediate negotiations on the full implementation of all Association of Colleges (AoC) national pay deals.

The national pay deals that this college has to date failed to fully implement are as follows:
  1. The 2008/09 national pay deal of 3.2% or £550 from 1 Oct 2008 (delete/insert as appropriate)
  2. The AoC national harmonised pay scale with the minimum rate of pay of £6.91 an hour. We attach a copy of the 2008/09 national pay scale for your information. (delete/insert as appropriate)
  3. Job evaluation using the nationally agreed Further Education Job Evaluation (FEJE) scheme (delete/insert as appropriate)
These pay deals, negotiated between the AoC and the unions, set the minimum recommended pay arrangements for all FE colleges in England. This college is only one of a minority of colleges refusing to implement the national pay deals; we believe this is having a negative impact on staff morale and productivity.

The national recognised unions (ACM, ATL, GMB, UCU, UNISON & UNITE) have launched the 'Time to Pay Up' campaign and are compiling a list of colleges that refuse to negotiate on full implementation. The unions are fully committed to taking appropriate action where colleges refuse to negotiate.

We would therefore request that the college agrees to sit down with the unions locally and negotiate full implementation of the national pay deals listed above. Please could you therefore confirm in writing by (insert date for response) that the college is willing to open immediate negotiations with the recognised unions.

Yours sincerely

(Insert name and signature of representative from each of the local recognised unions)
