International

Objective

UNISON’s regional international committees support and reinforce the activities of the main International Unit, promoting the organisation’s priorities and concerns on international issues.

International Climate Change

The South East Region of UNISON has proposed a motion to the 2008 Annual Conference urging the UK Government to provide economic aid to Guyana in return for a guarantee that rainforest will be protected.

Activities

The activities of the international committee involve solidarity with trade union colleagues overseas, representation at external events and educational initiatives.

Meetings

The SEIRC meets four times a year in UNISON’s Guildford office.

SEIRC Contacts

In 2008 the SEIRC is being chaired by Jessie Russell (NEC and Southampton District Local Government Branch) and the Vice-chair is Steve Cooper (Isle of Wight Local Government Branch).

Branch International Contacts

Branches are encouraged to identify an international contact/officer – someone in the Branch who is willing to receive and circulate information on international issues.

How you can help

The International Unit always needs help with urgent actions which it issues regularly throughout the year
