Library services

Library services are under threat. Rapid policy changes and lack of adequate funding have put pressure on many libraries to close, reduce services and shed staff.

In many libraries, traditional services which are immensely popular, trusted and valued by the public are being compromised as services diversify to include enhanced IT based services, such as internet and computer access. In some cases these changes have led to the deskilling of library professionals, many of whom have lost their jobs or face the threat of redundancy.

UNISON is concerned that policy changes in library services will lead to privatisation, impacting on jobs, pay and quality of service.
