Other pension schemes
The UNISON pensions unit has seen a marked increase in members belonging to private sector pensions, particularly with the continual move toward privatisation. Members from many industries now belong to a wide range of employer-sponsored schemes as well as a variety of scheme benefit types.
We cover a range of industries, such as gas, electricity, water, higher education, transport, nursing homes, etc.
We are able to provide support to members who either currently belong to such schemes or will potentially through privatisation.
We can assist on all types of schemes be they "defined benefit" such as final-salary or career-average schemes or "money purchase" such as money purchase, personal pensions or stakeholder arrangements.
Many problems have arisen in the private sector particularly with regard to the stability of future pension provision under final salary schemes.
We have seen a number of scheme closures for new members as well as attempts to cut back on pension promises.
We have helped to protect many members confronted with the continual changes that are occurring.
