When to contact the pensions unit
UNISON’s principal aim in relation to pensions is to protect the interests of our members both through national negotiations and through individual casework.Individual members should contact their UNISON Branch or Region if they require assistance in relation to a pension issue or dispute. The Pension Unit can assist with representation as required for dispute resolution including appeals to the Pensions Ombudsman and getting appropriate legal advice. We cannot offer financial advice.
Activists and Branches should get in touch with details of any pension issues that they require further guidance or assistance with. They should contact the Pensions unit (see contact details on right of this page) as soon as they are aware of any proposals to change their schemes or if any members are likely to be transferred under TUPE. Individual member's enquires should go to your UNISON Region
It is possible to arrange a visit from a pension officer where appropriate to assist in negotiations or present a presentation to members. Resources are limited and the greater the notice the better the chances are of being able to arrange a visit.
Member Nominated Trustees should contact the Pensions Unit when they require technical advice and especially if there are any plans to change the scheme.
Any member pension issues that cannot be initially answered or resolved at Branch or Regional Level can then be forwarded to us if deemed appropriate with full paperwork. For further guidance see How we deal with casework
