Local government pay matters
This year your pay rise matters more than ever. Why? Because the cost of
living is riding high and pay rises over the last four years have not kept
up. What's more, local government pay is the lowest in the public sector and
so-called 'efficiency' savings are leaving fewer of you to keep services
going. You're still doing more for less.
2.45% is not enough
UNISON says your pay needs to catch up with the cost of living and match up
to other public service workers and the rest of the workforce. The
government and employers are asking you to take a pay cut.
We say 'No'. You deserve a fair deal for improving council services and
making a real difference to local communities.
(19/12/008) UNISON has responded to a public announcement by the Local Government Employers (LGE) stating that the union has agreed arbitration terms.
(21/11/08) Great response to second local government branch survey
(14/11/08) Unions ask councils to budget for at least a cost-of-living increase, plus more for the lowest paid (includes pay news 23)
(09/10/08) NJC branches in England, Northern Ireland and Wales are urged to consult members as widely as possible on the options for the 2009/10 claim. Responses must be returned to regional heads of local government no later than 28 October
(21/09/2012) UNISON’s NJC Committee met on 18 September to review progress in the negotiations over the pay award for 2008/9, which followed the two days of action in July, and the joint statement with the LGA which followed them
(02/09/08) Trade unions and local government employers in England, Northern Ireland and Wales have agreed a framework for further talks, holding out hopes of settling the current pay dispute by the end of this year
We have confirmed the way forward with employers following an initial meeting yesterday to kick off the reopened NJC negotiations
Although employers in England, Northern Ireland and Wales have returned to negotiations, it is vital we maintain a high profile campaign to highlight the injustice faced by our members in local government and related employers
(25/07/08) The high profile of the strike days was down to a huge team effort – with your hard work and commitment we can all be very proud of our campaign and its success
(24/07/08) Issued on behalf of the employers in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, UNISON and UNITE
(21/07/08) What a show of solidarity!
(10/07/08) We need to make sure the local government employers hear our message loud and clear during the strike action taking place on 16 and 17 July – fair pay now!
(03/07/08) Members have said ‘No’ to the employers’ insulting pay offer. What happens now?
(02/07/08) Your questions answered
(02/07/08) Branches need to start planning now to make our strike a success
