UNISON service group elections - nominations open
All positions on UNISON's national service group executives are now up for election. The service group executives represent the area of employment in which you work: local government, health, police and justice, higher education, community, energy, water, the environment and transport. Regional self-organised groups are one of the bodies entitled to make nominations - nominations close on 17 February. More to read

Ask your MSP to support equal marriage
Following the Scottish Government consultation on same-sex marriage, the Equality Network is asking people in Scotland to ask their MSPs to pledge their support for equality. You can do this here

'Paternity' leave briefing
TUC e-learning briefing on paternity rights legislation allowing partners, including same-sex partners, to take additional paternity leave and pay so a couple can share the care of their baby here

Speak Up, Speak Out - Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January

Post school education LGBT equality events
The Forum for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in Post-school Education, of which UNISON is a founder member, is holding three training events on advancing LGBT equality in the post school sector: 8 February in Manchester, 1 March in London and 2 March in Coventry. Details.

Cutting Edge Consortium conference - London, 21 April
The Cutting Edge Consortium - of which UNISON is a member - is holding its 3rd national conference in April. Under the theme LGBT Lives - Achieving our Equality, this conference will examine how to challenge faith based homophobia and transphobia and promote human rights. More

Improving services for young LGBT people
The Youth Chances project is researching the needs and experiences of LGBTQ people aged 16-25 years in England, with the aim of addressing imbalances in service provision and health inequalities. If you commission services for young people, please complete this short commissioner's survey and if you provide services directly to young people, please complete this short provider's survey. This will help give a snapshot of current provision. More information about the project here.

Stop forced sterilisation in Sweden
In Sweden, trans people are currently forced to be sterilised before they can gain legal gender recognition. The majority of Swedish MPs now support amending the law - but Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt is letting a small conservative party block the change.

UN report on LGBT human rights
First ever United Nations report on human rights of LGBT people details how around the world people are killed or endure hate-motivated violence, torture, detention, criminalization and discrimination in jobs, health care and education because of their real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity.
