Trans memorial day, 20 November
TransGender Europe reminds us that every third day, the murder of a trans person is reported. Most transphobic violence goes unreported or even unrecognised so they have launched a murder monitoring project to raise awareness - see http://www.tgeu.org/node/53. Louise Ashworth re-elected to ILGA-Europe board
Over 300 people from 48 countries took part in ILGA-Europe's annual conference, which ended on 1 November. The conference theme was 'Overcoming Cultural and Religious Barriers to LGBT Equality'. One of the tasks of the conference was to elect members to ILGA-Europe's board. UNISON's Louise Ashworth was overwhelmingly re-elected for a two year term of office. Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. There are pre-launch events at the British Museum in London on 19 November and the University of Salford on 3 December. More at http://www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk |
