International
UNISON has links with sister unions throughout the world, and puts UNISON branches and regions in touch with their counterparts in Europe and further afield. Learning from other trade unionists is a vital way of strengthening our own movement. In the Northern Region we work closely with the Northern TUC on international issues and Deputy Convenor, Kenny Bell is Chair of the International Forum.
Colombia

Many other trade unionists were abducted, 'disappeared' or received death threats. UNISON Northern has close links in Colombia and in September 2009 hosted a visit from Colombian indigenous activist Aida Quilque.

Palestine
UNISON has a clear policy on Palestine which supports both an independent Palestine state and the right of Israel to exist. We believe that lasting peace can only happen by means of joint negotiation and agreement involving both Israel and Palestine and that trade unions can play an important part in the process. In March 2009 UNISON Northern on behalf of the Northern TUC co-ordinated a visit by two Palestinian women on a speaking tour to promote the Twinning Network.
