UNISON Northern is determined to challenge the extremism of the far right which threatens hatred and division in our communities. We are proud of the fact that so far no BNP candidate been elected to any council in the north east. We work together with other unions, community groups, faith groups and anti fascist organisations to keep the politics of hate out of our council chambers.
Regional convenor Clare Williams is chair of the Northern TUC Race Advisory Group and helped establish the ‘North East Unites against the BNP’ organisation.
Total Place/Procurement/Personalisation
Commissioning, procurement, marketisation and the new Total Place initiative are increasingly becoming important issues for UNISON members.
The Northern Region has been in the forefront of forging the union’s twin track approach which involves opposing the privatisation and marketisation of public services in principle but also recognises that where reforms are going ahead UNISON must get the best protection for our members.
