UNISON wins living wage at Sunderland College

(13/11/12) UNISON has today achieved the introduction of the living wage of £7.45 an hour for staff across Sunderland College.

In addition, the college has agreed that it will be built into all future procurement bids: external contractors bidding to provide services in the college will be asked if they pay their staff the living wage and this will be taken into account when contracts are awarded.

UNISON area organiser Stephen Mead said: "This has been achieved through working closely in partnership working with the college and they should be congratulated for recognising the need to introduce the living wage.

"This will directly benefit the lowest-paid staff in the college who are principally women workers."
