Trade unionists meet to plan fightback

(26/07/10) Trade unionists from across the north east and Cumbria are meeting to decide how to respond to the coalition government's planned spending cuts.

The Northern Public Services Alliance was launched last month in Newcastle, with more than 150 people in attendance. UNISON northern region played a leading part in setting up the alliance, along with other unions and the northern regional TUC.

Now seven local groups are to meet to plan how to take campaigns forward in local communities and spell out the case against cuts.

The evening meetings start today in Wallsend, at the Wallsend People's Centre, 10 Frank Street, and continue until a 6 August meeting in Bassenthwaite.

Details of all the meetings can be found Link to another websitehere.

The meetings come after the TUC warned that the current cult of "deficit fetishism" risked the economy "flatlining" after some growth.
