Congress condemns Israeli offensive on Gaza

(17/09/09) Congress condemned this year's Israeli offensive on Gaza and its continuing blockade on the territory, as well as vowing to raise awareness on the issues.

Delegates adopted a motion proposed by the Fire Brigades Union and a statement from the general council, which was significantly strengthened by UNISON bringing it in line with union policy agreed at our national delegate conference in June.

It called for targeted boycotts of goods from illegal settlements and companies involved in the occupation and the wall.

UNISON speaker Mike Kirby said that a resolution relied on a two state solution and Israeli withdrawal to the 1967 borders, "with land swaps where agreed – but what we have seen on recent visits are land grabs.

"The potential outline of a two-state solution is being brought into question by new settlements, colonies and outposts."
