(4/2/04) Increasing the number of young people joining and getting active in the union is the theme of this year’s young members conference, set for May.
The event – taking place at the union’s own holiday village in Croyde Bay, Devon, on the 7-9 May – aims to maintain recent successes in recruitment.
In 2002 the section saw nearly 100% increase in new recruits over 2001, with 2003 also seeing good growth.
To continue the momentum, this year’s conference, the sixth, will take the form of a training event with many interactive workshops and skills based sessions.

"The excellent young members recruitment figures are a tribute to the hard work and commitment of UNISON activists,” noted young members officer Chris Fabby.
“It would be great to build on this success by making this year’s conference the best attended yet. I would encourage any young member to attend - it's a fantastic opportunity to meet other members, learn some valuable activist skills, and to help shape the future of the union."
Topics to be covered include internationalism, tips on effective anti-privatisation campaigning, and public speaking.
It will also be a great chance for delegates to meet and socialise with other young members from across the union.
The conference venue, situated on North Devon's Golden Coast, has excellent leisure and sporting facilities.
You must be under 27 years of age on 7 May 2004 to attend.
Spaces are limited so please contact your

The deadline for registrations is the 19 March 2004 .
