UNISON branch secretary Mark Fisher said around 500 of the union's members were on the two lowest pay bands. "It will predominantly affect catering, cleaning and caring staff who are mostly women and part-time workers."
UNISON's head of nursing Gail Adams said: "Monitor should not fall into the trap of thinking that the answer to Mid Staffs' problems lie within the private sector.
The union will brief MPs on the "dangers" of introducing regional pay and conditions.
The union's letter states: "UNISON Liverpool John Moores University Branch formally request that, following yesterday's publication of the Report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, and following the role Sir Norman Bettison QPM played in the disgraceful cover up of this tragedy he is immediately stripped of the honorary fellowship awarded him by LJMU in 2004."
