Where young people are part of a workforce represented by a trade union they get a better deal, including improved pay and career opportunities, and are less at risk from exploitation, accidents and injury compared to young workers in non-unionised workplaces.
That's why our priority is to recruit and support more young members.
We are already making a major impact on the union by getting involved in campaigns and actively challenging prejudice against young people.
Together with young members UNISON is building a union that organises to win improved working conditions and pay, campaigns for better rights, and actively challenges inequality. We the young members are making a real difference.
One of the priorities for the young members forum is to increase the number of young members officers in branches, every branch should have a young members officer who can be trained to help and represent young members in the workplace.
Are you interested in becoming a young members officer? Could you make a difference to other young members in your workplace?
If you answered yes, contact your branch secretary to find out more about the role.
Alternatively email us at londonyoungmembers@unison.co.uk or telephone the regional office on 020 7535 2100.
There's also loads of useful information at www.troubleatwork.org.uk for those young people facing problems in the wrokplace.
