Which course is for you?

The programme is arranged in levels to enable you to choose the most appropriate course for you depending on your UNISON role, experience and individual needs. The courses in Level 1 are for newly appointed stewards or anyone wanting to brush up their basic skills, you can then progress onto level 2-4 to build on your knowledge and understanding on relevant subjects:

 

 

Level 1

Course to help with the essential knowledge and skills for trade union activity. These are basic skills courses for anyone interest in becoming active and newly appointed activists.

  • Lost in UNISON
  • Introductory stewards
  • Introductory safety reps
  • Union learning reps
  • Communicating with confidence

Level 2

  • Handling grievances and disciplinaries
  • Introduction to team negotiating
  • Rights at work
  • Risk Assessment
  • Skills for Life and the impact of Dyslexia in the Workplace

Level 3

  • Basic Pension Enquiries
  • Dealing with capability cases
  • Disciplinary hearing
  • End of Year Accounts
  • Going to Black Members Conference
  • Introduction to ICT for trade unionists
  • Sickness absence
  • Stewards Refresher (ERA re-accreditation)

Level 4

  • Dealing with bullying & Harassment
  • Dealing with redundancy and reorganisation at work
  • Employment law update
  • New Equality Reps training
  • Stress in the workplace
  • Violence at work
