Welcome to Greater London's LGBT pages
INFORMATION AND CONTACT DETAILSThe Greater London Region of UNISON supports the fight for lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. One of the most important ways that the Region and UNISON nationally does this is by creating structures through which LGBT people meet together and feed the decisions they make through to the structures of the union as a whole.A number of branches in the region have LGBT groups. If you don't know whether your branch has a group either contact them directly or contact us (see below). In addition there is a Regional LGBT Committee to which members are elected every year at the AGM in November. The AGM is open to any LGBT member in the Greater London Region of UNISON. The current Co-Chairs of the Regional Committee are Dave Cosgrave and Petrina Ennis.
GREATER LONDON REGION LGBT GROUP MEETING 6 JUNE 2013The Regional LGBT Committee welcomes all LGBT members in Greater London Region, including retired LGBT members, to a LGBT Group Open Meeting on Thursday 6 June from 7pm -8.30pm, at ULU, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HY. Please put this date in your diary and come along to help us plan for PRIDE 2013.
GREATER LONDON REGIONAL LGBT EBULLETIN -The latest edition will soon be available from here -
PINKWASHING CAMPAIGNPinkwashing is the way the Israeli state uses the question of LGBT rights to distract attention from its systematic human rights abuses of the Palestinian people whose country it occupies. The Israeli government paints a wonderful tourist destination particularly for gay men to enhance its image in LGBT communities abroad. UNISON and UNISON LGBT conference has detailed policy against pinkwashing and more inforamtion can be found at www.nopinkwashing.org.uk
LGBT COMMITTEE AND OPEN MEETINGS
As well as it's AGM the Regional LGBT Committee also holds two open meetings each year in June and December. Dates for these will be published before each one.
All branches are informed of the open meetings and members on the LGBT email list will receive direct mailings. These meetings are also open to retired LGBT members.
The Committee also organises formally and informally at UNISON National LGBT Conference which will be held 22-24November 2013 in Liverpool. There is a regional meeting on the Friday and also several social get-togethers.
Throughout the year we also organise other activities for example leafleting LGBT venues in London to encourage people to join UNISON and over recent years leaflets calling on our communities to vote against the BNP.If you are interested in any of this or have other ideas about things UNISON LGBT members could be doing then sign up to the regional mailing list and try and get along to some or all of the activities we organise.
