Welcome to Greater London's LGBT pages

Information and contact details

The Greater London Region of UNISON supports the fight for lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality.

One of the most important ways that the Region and UNISON nationally does this is by creating structures through which LGBT people meet together and feed the decisions they make through to the structures of the union as a whole.

A number of branches in the region have LGBT groups. If you don't know whether your branch has a group either contact them directly or contact us (see below).

In addition there is a Regional LGBT Committee to which members are elected every year at the AGM in November. The AGM is open to any LGBT member in the Greater London Region of UNISON. The current Co-Chairs of the Regional Committee are Alan Darbin and Petrina Moran.

 LGBT COMMITTEE AND OPEN MEETINGS

The Regional LGBT Committee also holds two open meetings each year as well as the AGM. In 2012 these are going to be held on 12 June and 12 December between 7pm-8.30pm.   All branches are informed of the open meetings and members on the LGBT email list will receive direct mailings. These meetings are also open to retired LGBT members.  The Regional LGBT Group AGM will be held on 3 November 2012.

The Committee also organises formally and informally at UNISON National LGBT Conference which will be held 16-18 November 2012 in Brighton. There is a regional meeting and also several social get-togethers.

WORLD PRIDE 2012

The aim of WorldPride is to promote LGBT issues on a global scale.  It will be held in London this year with the Pride March taking place on 7 July.  UNISON Greater London Region will be inviting you to spend Pride with us, as we do every year, and details will be on this website nearer the time.

Throughout the year we also organise other activities for example leafleting LGBT venues in London to encourage people to join UNISON and over recent years leaflets calling on our communities to vote against the BNP.

If you are interested in any of this or have other ideas about things UNISON LGBT members could be doing then sign up to the regional mailing list and try and get along to some or all of the activities we organise.
