How to apply and other information

All applicants for courses should complete an application form which can be downloaded here http://www.unison.org.uk/acrobat/B2238c.doc or obtained on the back page of the education and training programme.

This form should be completed, authorised by the Branch Education officer or Branch Secretary and returned to Amanda Mayers by fax 0207 535 2105 or post – UNISON First Floor, Congress House, Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3LS as soon as possible.

At the same time as you apply for a course we strongly advise you to start arranging time off (see the education and training programme for more information on what the law says about time off)

Once a completed application is received by us an acknowledgement is sent to the applicant.

Around 10 days prior to the course final details will be sent to you confirming start time, venue and any other details.

Funding course places

Branches should allocate sufficient funds to ensure all applicants can attend appropriate UNISON learning events. It is the branch and not the individual applicant who is responsible for the payment of course registration fees and travelling expenses.

We only charge a course fee (for the branch to pay) where we provide lunch at a course venue at the region’s expenses. You must get your application form countersigned by your branch so they are aware of these arrangements.

Non–attendance at courses

From time to time a small minority of applicants do not turn up for the course and do not inform us beforehand.

Because of the disruption caused by this practice, the region will charge branches £15 penalty for each day of the course for applicants with a confirmed place on the course who have received final details.
