The rest of the world

UNISON has clearly defined priorities which determine the key areas in which we undertake projects and on which we concentrate our attention and efforts. These priorities derive from the decisions of our National Delegate Conference and the views of our membership. But in seeking to defend public services, in seeking to extend and protect trade union rights and in seeking to improve the quality of life for working people we cannot ignore those parts of the world which do not easily fit our priorities. Therefore we seek to keep abreast of developments worldwide and to work with sister unions whenever and wherever we have the resources to do so.

Canada

UNISON has a long record of co-operation with sister unions in Canada. Currently we are seeking to co-operate with them around work on Colombia and southern Africa. We are also looking at ways in which we can support them in their campaign to stop the Canada EU Free Trade Agreement which if concluded could do serious damage to public services.
