Solidarity/Action

The past few years have seen an increase in the erosion of workers' rights at home and abroad. Whenever possible, UNISON has shown solidarity with workers overseas who face threats to their jobs, working conditions and even their lives.

UNISON responds to calls for help by sending messages of solidarity, protesting to the government of the country concerned and the ambassador to the UK, requesting a meeting with ambassadors, informing the UK government and asking for intervention, protesting outside embassies in the UK and issuing urgent actions to UNISON members to write to various bodies or take part in a demonstration of support. Action can also include taking part in a delegation or fact-finding mission, and offering assistance whenever we can.
