ACT NOW - call on Mubarak to revoke closure of UNISON-supported organisation in Egypt
CTUWS is an independent civil society organisation whose role is to develop independent trade unions who can defend workers' rights.
CTUWS branch office in Naj' Hamadi has been closed and another in Mahalla has been threatened with closure. UNISON strongly protested the closure and asked for the office to be reopened and the harassment to stop.
UNISON, through its development fund (UIDF), recently funded CTUWS to run a project to raise awareness on the effects of International Financial Institutions' and WTO agreements on domestic policies. The project included workshops on workers' rights, ILO conventions and international law.
