Scientific, technical and dental workers

This group encompasses a wide range of highly skilled NHS workers formerly covered by the old Whitley Council Professional and Technical B (PTB) Sector. Staff covered include:

• Healthcare scientists including clinical scientists who work in biochemistry, gastroenterology, haemotology, haemostasis and thrombosis, microbiology, immunogenetics and histocompatibility, immunology molecular genetics, medical physics, respiratory physiology and clinical engineering
• Cytoscreeners, laboratory support staff and perfusionists
• Technicians/technologists who work in anatomical pathology, audiology, dental, physiological measurements and cardiology, gastroenterology, hearing, respiratory, medical physics, engineering, renal, physiology, neurophysiology, and medical illustrators
• Estates staff
• Operating department practitioners and assistants
• Dental auxiliaries, hygienists and therapists
• Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants

UNISON has members in all these areas whose national interests are represented by the UNISON Healthcare Service Group PTB Sector Committee.

UNISON also has special relationships with professional bodies such as the Association of Pharmacy Technicians (APT(UK)) and the College of Operating Department Practitioners.
