Hands off our housingUNISON is opposed to the wholesale selling off of large chunks of the country's council housing stock.These large scale voluntary transfers are damaging to tenants, local authorities, services and trade union organisation. UNISON fully supports options that enable investment to take place without homes being sold. The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has overall responsibility for housing and the investment options for meeting the Decent Homes Standard. There are huge implications both for tenants and UNISON members who work in housing departments - the latter are now much more likely to transfer to a housing association (via a stock transfer or PFI) or an arms length management organisation.
