Road to Copenhagen

World leaders meet in Copenhagen next week to thrash out a global deal on climate change.

Climate scientists say the world must stop the growth in greenhouse gas emissions. By 2050 emissions must be cut by 80% if we are to limit global warming. The stakes could not be higher.

But there will be some tough talking when it comes to how far industrialised countries like the US and Europe are willing to cut emissions, and how far developing countries are able to limit their growth.

Jobs in a greener economy

Unions and workers across the globe will also be facing up to what deep cuts in carbon emissions might mean for jobs and employment.

We believe that any agreement on emissions cuts in Copenhagen will only be successful if workers and communities are supported in the transition towards a low-carbon, climate-resilient society.

Join us in backing the International Trade Union Confederation campaign for a 'just transition' for workers to be part of the Copenhagen talks.

  • Latest from Copenhagen - act now

Unions in the UK and around the world have been lobbying hard to include a concept called "Just Transition" in the negotiating texts, committing the conference to a fairer outcome for vulnerable people.

Ministers meeting in Copenhagen will have the chance to seal this fairness into the conference outcome. But it is still hanging in the balance.

Please help us to let Ed Miliband's team in Copenhagen know we care about the final deal including the fairness that only a proper framework like Just Transition will bring. Ask Ed to lobby hard for Just Transition in the Ministerial Agreement.
