Tackling climate change

Green leaf

UNISON members recognise that we all have a role to play in helping to reduce C02 emissions that cause climate change. This includes doing things differently at home and at work. But it also includes campaigning for policies on issues such as energy and transport that will reduce emissions and create green jobs. As the UK's largest public services union, with 1.4 million members across local government, the health service, education, housing, transport and the utilities, our priorities include

  • greening our workplace
  • providing information to members
  • using our campaign experience to call for fair and effective action to tackle climate change
The evidence shows that we will all be worse off if we do not take action now - with the least well off, at home and internationally, suffering the most

What should I do next?

To find out more about becoming a trade union environmental representative you can download a draft job description. The TUC run courses for environmental reps and UNISON offer an organising around climate change branch development course. There is also a model agreement that your branch can propose to your employer which is available to download.
