Review of political fund effectiveness
UNISON campaigns to influence national and local policy to help protect and improve public services and defend the jobs of public service workers. In order to carry out our political campaigning effectively the union has a separate political fund.
UNISON’s political fund is divided into two sections – UNISON Labour Link, which funds our lobbying within the Labour Party at all levels; and the general political fund, which supports local and national campaigns and pays for political advertising.
UNISON members are invited to opt into either fund (or both) when they join the union.
UNISON is currently carrying out a review of its political fund arrangements with a view to ensuring the ‘highest possible levels of transparency, participation and activity’.
The review is being overseen by a steering group appointed by the national executive council, and its final report will be presented to national delegate conference in June 2010.
