Education workforce

UNISON is the largest trade union for staff in schools.

Our members include teaching assistants, nursery staff, administrators, secretaries, policy officers, technicians, cleaners, caretakers, school meals workers - in fact anyone working in schools or supporting education.

UNISON is campaigning to make sure the vital contribution these staff make to schools and education is recognised and rewarded by calling for:

  • Better pay and conditions
  • Improved career structures
  • Access to training and development
  • Fair treatment for term-time, part-time and temporary staff
  • High quality, well-resourced education services accountable to the local community

Is your MP opposing forced academies?

(01/02/2012) Parents, governors and school staff in Haringey are outraged following the Governments threats to force local primary schools to become academies against their will.  UNISON is urging members and parents to contact your MP today. Ask them to sign Early Day Motion 2632 on Forced Academies and call on the Government to stop forcing primary schools to become academies.

Academies mythbuster

Education is under attack from the Tory-led government. It is pushing more and more schools to become independent academies without proper consideration or consultation.

Save Our Lolly Pop People: Sign the Petition

(06/09/2011)Many schools across the country will have gone back this week to find their valuable school crossing person missing and I believe it will only be a matter of time before a child is hurt or killed as a direct result of these cuts.

School Support Staff Seminar

The School Support Staff Seminar will be taking place from 10.00am - 4.00pm on Wednesday, 28 September, 2011 at The Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre Hotel.

Save school crossing patrols

Some local authorities are closing or reducing school crossing patrols in a bid to cut spending. Even though the service undoubtedly saves childrens lives, it is not required by law and some authorities are banking on schools themselves or volunteers to provide them.
