Student Union Superannuation Scheme

Further to circular HE/13/11 please below is a downloadable response for UNISON branches to use and adapt in response to the consultation on the proposed changes to the Students’ Union Superannuation Scheme. Each student union participating in the new scheme has the flexibility to vary the contribution rate that it will make to the new scheme.

National Union of Students Superannuation Scheme

The Students’ Union Pension Scheme (SUSS) is a pension scheme that covers staff employed by the NUS and in 69 student’s unions. A list of the institutions affected can be downloaded from the link below attached.The NUS as principal employer in the scheme has announced that it intends to close the scheme for future accrual and replace the current defined benefit scheme with a money purchase scheme. The proposed changes are:

• closing SUSS to all members;
• providing access to a money purchase arrangement for future pension provision.

AMSU Survey for Student Union employed staff

(27/11/2009)The Association of University Managers in Student Unions (AMSU) has just released its annual Diversity Survey which collects equality monitoring information about students' union staff in the UK in order to provide information for national equality initiatives. We would be grateful if you could circulate this to your members working in Student unions (and also use this as an opportunity to recruit staff who are not yet UNISON members).
