Demonstration against the cuts

The government has announced savage cuts to further education in England, including:

  • a 25% or £1.1bn,cut in the adult education and skills budget by 2014;
  • axing the educational maintenance allowance;
  • axing the Level 2 entitlement for adult learners over 25;
  • abolishing the Train to Gain scheme.

These cuts will have a devastating impact on our colleges and our communities and they are only the tip of the iceberg. The government is also expected to announce an increase in further education fees shortly. UNISON supported the NUS/UCU national demonstration against cuts to further and higher education in London on the 10 November.
