Mental Health Awareness

Mind, the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, have launched their long-term employment campaign, 'Taking . Mind will be asking employees and employers to face up to mental health, showing that friendly, open and supportive work environments benefit everyone.

Each year, 1 in 6 workers experience depression, anxiety or unmanageable stress. For too long mental health has been a taboo subject in the workplace, with millions of people feeling that they need to put on a 'brave face' and hide their mental distress. Mind will show how millions of lives could be improved and millions of pounds could be saved if employers took simple, inexpensive steps to improve the mental wellbeing of their workforce.

(18/02/2011)Since 2003 it has been against the law to discriminate against an employee because of their sexual orientation and religion or belief. A new guide has been published which aims to provide practical guidance to both the further and higher education sectors based on the good practice that exists in both sectors.

The Importance of Equality Impact Assessments

(28/10/2010) At a workshop held at the branch seminar last week it was clear that many HEI’s are not competently carrying out Equality Impact Assessments. This leaves the HEI in clear breach of the Equality Duties. It is worth reminding them of this as well as asking them to cross reference the EIA with current Equality Schemes.
