Save the Local Government Pension Scheme!

(26/9/05) Last week at the start of negotiations, the local government employers announced that they want to reduce LGPS benefits and increase employee contributions for at least two years. The changes apply to our members in local government, police, education, probation, meat hygiene, housing associations, Passenger Transport Executives, the Environment Agency the voluntary and private sectors.

UNISON will now be pulling out all the stops to change the employers' minds and organise industrial action if we can't make them see sense. We need YOU to be involved in our campaign to make it a success.

Local government pension scheme - employers' proposal

(24/09/05) Branches are advised of the employers' initial,  'without prejudice' proposals at the opening of negotiations on the future of the Local Government Pension Scheme. The proposals amount to a worsening of the position prior to the successful industrial action ballot earlier in the year which led to the revocation of the regulations removing the 85 Rule. Branches are urged to inform members of the proposals, recruit non members, 'map' employers covered by your branch and ensure that membership records are up to date.
