New Agreement on Bullying and Harassment

New Powers to Screen and Search Pupils for Weapons

(15/03/2007) As part of the Violent Crime Reduction Act the government is introducing proposals that will allow head teachers and authorised staff to search without consent, pupils whom they suspect are carrying a knife or other weapon. The power comes into force on 31 May 2007 and the DfES is currently undertaking a consultation on the guidance that will accompany the Act. Although this relates to schools it is relevant to the college sector as well.
