Members need to know about Social Housing Pension Scheme changes

UNISON members in local government and community will be affected by changes to Social Housing Pension Scheme (SHPS) schemes and branches need to make sure they have the information.

The triennial SHPS valuation is under way. The scheme is consulting on a number of changes – including a higher retirement age and higher contributions.

Over 60,000 staff working for housing associations are in various schemes, but many will not be in good contact with their branches.

This is an ideal opportunity for branches and activists to reach out and contact housing associations where they have members, and lobby them to protect the pension schemes.

The briefing gives full details – and asks branches and activists to contact the national community service group with details of employer responses.

Final changes will be announced in March 2015.
