It's important that your fund has worker representation
LGPS
All LGPS funds are obliged to consider applications by employee representatives for voting rights on fund boards. These boards make decisions about how your pensions savings are invested. Not all funds give worker representatives full rights, but UNISON believes they should.
UNISON is urging all branches to ensure that worker representatives on funds are given full voting rights.
As a member of the LGPS scheme you are entitled to be consulted regularly on the rules and investment decisions of your fund. Many have websites.
Private sector
Larger private sector firms with occupational schemes may be lobbied for improved worker representation and full trustee status.
Health and civil service
Pensions under the NHS and civil service schemes are not funded, but paid out of taxation. Contributions and benefits are subject to UNISON's negotiations.
Community and voluntary sector
Employees contribute to the Social Housing Fund.
