For branches

As of 1 April 2006 all LGPS administering authorities will be issuing pension fund governance statements. These set out policies on voting rights for those representatives who can sit on pension committees and investment panels. This offers existing UNISON observers and branches the chance to press for trade union representation with voting rights for your administering authority.

Local government branches which currently have no arrangements for representation on LGPS schemes, or have representation falling short of full voting rights, are requested to contact the lead officer at c.meech@unison.co.uk to prepare for a programme to include::

1 Contacting your pension's administrator and council leader to request that they offer seats with voting rights for trade union representatives
2 Contacting your administrating authority to raise the same issue
3 Discussing within your branch structures how best recruit UNISON members who want to represent the interests of contributors to the fund.

Branches with members in private sector or other funded schemes, such as the USS and university schemes, Social Housing Fund, water companies etc, please contact c.meech@unison.co.uk with details of any current representation.
