UNISON-PSI Pension Fund Investment Seminar December 3rd to 4th 2009
The largest 10 pension funds in the world are the savings of public service workers. And of the largest 300 pension funds in the world, just over 200 are the savings funds of public service workers. They have assets valued at around $15 trillion. This is why, with our colleagues at PSI, we decided to seek international collaboration between the unions which have trustees on the boards of these pension funds, and to make this an ongoing and deepening relationship. With great generosity, 17 PSI affiliates travelled from 12 countries to start the discussion.
The meeting concluded that workers savings must be invested for better and more sustainable retirements, not squandered by high-paid financiers on market speculation. On behalf of our members, we must find a new model for sustainable growth. This conference was a step forward in that quest.
