Sustainable development is about meeting present day needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs; it requires the integration of economic growth, social development and environmental protection.
UNISON adopted sustainable development as a key campaign objective in 2000. It affects much of the work we do as a union, and involves UNISON members in sectors such as local government, education, energy, transport, water and environment. To further our campaigning on sustainable development, UNISON works alongside NGOs or as part of Steering Groups in many of the areas below.
